Once you do have the AV sorted out, it might be a good idea to reset and reinstall Windows anyway. ConfigureDefender will enable even better protection than you get with Defender by itself. Windows 10 is more secure than we might think and its security tools go beyond just Defender. I know I sure have learned my lesson about antivirus. Quietman is right on when he says MS Defender is all you need. My laptop is running fine again with the built-in Windows Defender Antivirus. If you are able to remove BD and Avast without a reset, once MS Defender is back on be sure to check that your Virus and Threat Protection module is enabled.

Bitdefender Free is notoriously hard to remove and you might have residual Bitdefender files causing both Avast to not install and also preventing Microsoft Defender from turning back on. It is not normal at all for Bitdefender take overnight to run a scan. Avast One is still very new, It has only been available for maybe two months now and I don't think Avast has worked all the bugs out yet.
